The 2^nd PIARC International Conference on Road Tunnel Safety and Operation was celebrated from 25 to 28 October 2022 in Granada / Spain. The conference was organized in close cooperation between PIARC and ATC, the Spanish Technical Road Association. The conference was hold together with the very well-established Spanish Tunnel Symposium (8^th edition), which proofed to be a very fruitful and successful concept. More than 700 delegates from 35 different countries around the world attended the conference and 86 presentations where given. The topics addressed by the conference were: New challenges on tunnels for the 2030 target, Resilience in road tunnels, Management of urban and highly trafficked tunnels, Contribution of ITS to the improvement of tunnel operation, New vehicle propulsion energies and their impact on road tunnels, Risk Analysis, Ventilation, Lighting and energy efficiency, Emergency Management and Current situation of tunnels in relation to standards.
